DIY FLOWER HEADDRESS TUTORIAL

Monday, February 20, 2012

Hi guys! This is how you can make your own flower headdress like the one I wore in my last outfit post! I learned how to do this on Renaissance Day in 7th grade but mine fell apart over the years. This project is quick and easy and the combinations are limitless. Plus, they make great accessories for the springtime and would be adorable gifts to give your friends because you could even personalize it to their favorite flowers and colors. :)

You will need floral wire, floral tape (preferably the rubbery kind, not the paper based kind), and pliers.
You will also need an assortment of fake flowers; try buying them in various sizes, as well as buying some leaves to add variety. I also purchased some fake berries!
To begin, measure the wire around your head loosely and add a couple inches to it. Double this length and fold it in half.
Now twist the length of the wire around itself, it doesn't need to be perfect-- it just needs to stay together as one piece.
You will be left with two loose ends, bend them down to form a curved end (this will prevent you from getting poked by it).
Re-fit the wire around your head snugly, then add 2 inches (more if you prefer your headdress to be looser).

Wrap the excess ends around the circle you have now formed like so.
Take your floral tape and wrap it around the ends to secure it.
It will look like this afterwards.
Prepare your fake flowers by either cutting them off individually or cutting them off in small sections (this will be quicker). Make sure you leave some of the excess stem so you have a spot for the tape to adhere to next! Do the same with the leaves.
Using the same technique, affix the flowers and leaves onto the wire by wrapping the ends with tape.
After you add a couple flowers, this is what your headdress will look like. You can choose to keep it simple or add them all around the entire circumference!
This is how my flower headdress turned out in the end! I used a lot of small flowers but next time I want to do one all with large flowers only.
Hope you enjoyed this tutorial and feel free to leave me a comment if you have a question! :)
