Handmade Hairpiece, Collar, Dress, Belt, & Armwarmers; Mixmaster Boots (Currently on sale!) c/o Naughty Monkey

Happy Halloween! This year, I decided to dress up as Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender! I tried to do some more dynamic firebending-esque poses this time but I'm not sure if it's that convincing :P I made everything in this look, besides the shoes. All materials were purchased at Jo-Ann's and cost around $15. I did simplify this look from the original costume to keep it more modern and also to work with the amount of time I had to construct the costume (which was 2 days sadly! ;-;)

AGNI KAI!

For the headpiece, I purchased metallic gold cardstock and cut out the shape of Azula's hairpiece, I then secured it to my bun with bobby pins. For the dress, I started by making a black bodycon dress with stretch fabric. Then, using two layers of black felt, I sewed those on to the shoulders and cut them into the desired armour-like shape. Using thin gold ribbon, I topstitched that to the felt and onto the front of the dress to give the illusion of a continuous panel. (If you plan on replicating this, do not topstitch the ribbon completely around the back or else you will not be able to get into the dress as it needs to stretch).

For the collar, I used more black felt to give it structure and also attached two ribbons on both ends so I could tie it around my neck. The armwarmers were just thin rectangles of stretch fabric that I sewed into a tube shape. Lastly, the belt is made out of three strips of thick gold ribbon sewn together (the store was out of the wide gold ribbon so I had to make do), although I do think the seams on the belt make it look more intricate.

I kept my shoes simple with basic black boots-- these Naughty Monkey boots (great quality shoes and will be reviewed in further detail in upcoming post) actually arrived today which was very convenient as they looked great with the outfit! Hope you guys enjoyed the look and if you have additional questions, you can email me for clarification. Anyways, have a great Halloween and some other awesome costumes to take a look at are Kendall's Amy Winehouse look, and Bobby's Sonic the Hedgehog look!
